Second Hammerhead Spotted Off La Jolla Shores

Uneasy beachgoers were a little more unnerved Sunday when a hammerhead shark was spotted in the same are where another hammerhead was spotted just a day earlier. Unlike Saturday, lifeguards did not close the beach down Sunday, instead issuing a shark advisory. Authorities said they will monitor the water near La Jolla Shores on Monday to determine if any additional precautions will be necessary. Both Saturday's and Sunday's sightings were similar, and appear to have been prompted by fisherman dripping fish blood into the sea. In both cases, kayakers noticed the sharks before heading towards the shore. Both sharks approached swimmers in the ocean before heading back out to deeper waters. No injuries resulted from either shark.
