La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores has the largest and most popular beach in La Jolla with easy access from the parking lot. The is a nice park, a sidewalk along the sand, lifeguards, restrooms and small playground for children.

One of my favorite memories happened when I was kayaking in the Shores, the water was calm, almost pink from the sunset and the only sound was my paddle moving through the water, when all of a sudden 4 dolphins magically appeared. They stayed with me for several minutes as I moved across the water, just me, my kayak and 4 dolphins gliding through the water. Then, in a moment’s notice, the dolphins vanished as quickly as they appeared but the memory will last a lifetime.

"The Shores" also has some good food:

Piatti: Great, consistent, fresh Italian food. One of my favorite salads is the Grilled Romaine with Prosciutto. House-made Ricotta-spinach Ravioli with lemon cream sauce is amazing. Scaloppini with lemon-caper piccata is tender & good.

Barbarella Restaurant & Bar: Seared Salmon is one of my favorites and I also love the Bib & Blue salad. The French onion soup and crusty bread is yummy. October the restaurant is transformed by all the Halloween decorations and is a sight to behold.

Shorehouse Kitchen: Monterrey omelet and vanilla bean French toast, good coffee.

Cheese Shop has been around for many years. When my children were young we would order our favorite sandwiches and take them to the beach for a picnic. I still love the evergreen sandwich and the amazing oatmeal cookies.

Brick and Bell Café:
Great scones (not dry), the cranberry orange is my favorite. Cinnamon rolls, good sandwiches and coffee drinks.

For those who want to eat next to the beach, the Shores Restaurant overlooks the beach and boardwalk (serves breakfast, lunch and dinner).

The Marine Room is right on the sand and extra fun at high tide when the waves hit the windows. Great dinners, amazing view and brunch at high tide.
